4. How to Check Your Current Roll or Label Size
- Check the packaging of your current labels or till roll — the size is usually printed clearly (e.g. “4x6”, “100x150mm”, “57x40mm”, “80x80mm”).
- If unmarked, measure the width of the roll or label, and the diameter of the roll core, using a ruler or tape measure.
- Check your printer or card machine's user manual or manufacturer's website for the specified paper or label size.
- If still unsure, contact us at info@dispatchsupply.co.uk with your printer or card machine model, and we will help confirm compatibility.
5. Direct Thermal vs Thermal Transfer — What's the Difference?
It is important to confirm whether your printer uses direct thermal or thermal transfer technology, as they are not interchangeable:
Technology
How It Works
Our Products
Direct Thermal
Uses heat directly on specially coated paper. No ink, toner or ribbon required.
All Dispatch Supply thermal labels and till rolls are direct thermal.
Thermal Transfer
Uses heat to melt ink from a ribbon onto standard label material. Requires a separate ribbon.
Not currently supplied by Dispatch Supply — please contact us if you require thermal transfer ribbons or labels.
